Thomas is a 40-year-old gay man from Denmark who desperately wants a child, but current legislation precludes single men – and especially gays, from adoption. He decides to take a vacation and visit his friend Jakob, who owns a bar in Brazil. Thomas learns that there is an illegal adoption market and tries to buy an unborn baby from an alcoholic single mother in the slums. Despite Jakob’s warnings, Thomas gets heavily involved with her and her family and his initial motives become highly questionable. This compelling drama raises disturbing questions about globalization, illegal adoption, and what makes a family.
