Moments of sly slapstick leaven this endearing ensemble drama about a conservative Italian family trying to keep the family pasta business afloat. Tommaso, an aspiring writer living in Rome, makes a family visit home with the intention of coming out to his family in order to avoid taking over the business, only to have his older brother, Antonio, beat him to the punch. The revelation causes their father to have a minor heart attack, and throws their traditional family values into upheaval. Embroidered by an eccentric cast of characters, as well as a surprise visit from Tommaso’s spirited gay Roman friends, Loose Cannons is both playful and heartfelt as it critiques provincial values.
