Truly finding oneself can happen in the most unexpected places, as we see in this emotional and touching journey of a wandering soul who didn’t even know she was lost. Troubled by the suicide of her gay friend Matt, Alexa travels from Amsterdam to Matt’s rural hometown in Iowa, hoping to uncover the reasons that led him to take his own life. She arrives with a backpack, video camera, and intentions to make a film about what it must be like to be gay in “Bumblefuck, USA.” But by the end of the summer what Alexa discovers, instead, is her own sexuality when she meets Jennifer, a charismatic lesbian artist, who draws Alexa out of her shell and out from behind the camera.
