Krudas (Sandra
Boero-Imwinkelried, Argentina/Cuba/France, 2006): Issues of female liberation, lesbian rights, and racism are addressed in this story of the unique colors and rhythms of Cuba. Krudas explores the lives and work of an interracial lesbian couple from Cuba who lead a hip hop duo called Krudas and a street performance group of actors, stilt walkers, and jugglers.
Tokens (Julie Casper Roth,
US, 2007): Tokens explores the intersection of sexuality and Mormonism at a pivotal moment in a young woman’s life. Religious sexual counsel contrasts with life experiences as she comes to terms with her identity.
Freeheld (Cynthia Wade,
US, 2007): Police officer Laurel Hester not only fights her terminal illness, but also fights elected officials (Freeholders) for the right to transfer her pension to her domestic partner, as the town explodes in controversy around her plight.
