The Kids are Alright

These unforgettably charming shorts surprise and delight in their uplifting stories of acceptance and celebration of difference. In THE ONE YOU NEVER FORGET, a teen gets ready to go out to his first dance while trying to elude his parents, who are eager to take photos of him with his date. In LOLO, an openly gay 11-year-old boy tries to convince Max, his first love, to go public with their relationship at the school party. In COGNITIVE, a young gay father planning to take his infant daughter to church for the first time is reminded of the traumatic memories from his own religious upbringing. In VICTORY BOULEVARD, a teen crushes on his buff neighbor but figures he’ll never have a chance with him. And from the Young Actors Theatre Camp in California comes four films created collaboratively by youth and professional filmmaker mentors: in MONOCEROS LEX, a young middle-schooler wakes up one morning to find a unicorn horn growing out of his forehead; in HENRY, a 14 year-old boy longs for the greatest Christmas present ever — coming out to his father and being accepted; in SING OUT, a girl bullied by the “mean girl” in school finds the best way to deal with her is to out sing her; and in BIRTHDAY GIRL, a cloud hangs over Brynn’s surprise birthday party as her mom wonders if her father will show up or continue to miss out on seeing his daughter grow up?
