Virtual Festival FAQS
For Reeling 2020, virtual film screenings are scheduled to premiere each day of the festival and will be available to watch within a 4-day window. You may purchase your tickets in advance starting on Thursday, September 3 or during the viewing window. Once you press play on the film, you will have 48 hours to watch the film.
Please note that even though the films are available until 11:59 CDT PM on the last scheduled day, we highly recommend you purchase a ticket and begin viewing the virtual screening at least 3 hours before the window closes. You will still have 48 hours to finish watching the program as long as you press play before midnight on the scheduled last day.
All feature film programs will be geo-blocked to be available in Illinois. Short programs will be available worldwide with the exception of LONELY BEAUTIFUL BOYS and END OF THE WORLD AS YOU KNOW IT which will be geo-blocked to the U.S.. Virtual events, panels, and Q&As with filmmakers are available with a ticket purchase. Some virtual screenings have limited capacity, and films can “sell out” which will be indicated by “Sold Out.“ Films are not rated for content and viewer discretion is advised.

Can I watch films if I’m located outside of Illinois or the United States?
All feature film programs will only be accessible to viewers located in Illinois. All short programs will be available worldwide with the exception of LONELY BEAUTIFUL BOYS and END OF THE WORLD AS YOU KNOW IT which will only be available in the U.S.
How long are films available to stream?
All festival films are available to stream for a period of 4 days each. Once you hit play on a movie, you have 48 hours to finish watching it at any point during the 4-day period. Check the schedule to see when films will premiere. Each film page includes a real-time countdown for availability.
How does my pass work?
Festival passes are automatically linked to your account on Eventive. With your festival pass, you can “Pre-order” tickets in advance or “Unlock” screenings currently available for viewing. Browse Reeling’s Virtual Catalog to make your selections. Passes are non-transferable. No refunds or exchanges.
How do I purchase an individual ticket to a program?
To purchase an individual ticket, browse Reeling’s Virtual Catalog and select the film you wish to watch. Purchase your ticket by selecting “Pre-order” or ”Unlock” and then enter your email address to log in or create an account on Eventive. You will then be prompted to enter your credit card information to complete the purchase.
What happens once I purchase my pass or individual ticket?
If you purchase a ticket during the film’s 4-day availability window, the content will be available to watch by clicking the “Watch Now” button. Once you click play, you will have 48 hours to finish watching the content.
All of the films you have ordered can be found by clicking on your profile icon in the top right corner of Reeling’s Virtual Catalog, then selecting “My Virtual Content.”
I got a ticket but didn’t get a confirmation email.
Check the junk, spam, and/or promotions folder of your inbox. Sometimes the confirmation emails are filtered to those folders instead of the main inbox. If you still can’t find it, email email@example.com for assistance.
Which web browsers can I use for streaming?
On both Windows and Mac computers, the following browsers are supported: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Safari. We recommend using the latest version of your browser. Please note that streaming is not supported on Internet Explorer.

What does it mean if the film says “Sold Out”?
Some virtual screenings have limited capacity, and films can “sell out” which will be indicated by “Sold Out.“
How do I vote for a film for the Audience Awards?
On the film screening page, you can vote by using our numerical rating scale; 5 (Loved It!) to 1 (Hated It!).
How do I watch a livestream or live Q&A?
A ticket purchase is required to attend the livestream filmmaker Q&As. If you’ve ordered a film program that includes a Filmmaker Q&A, select “Filmmaker Q&A” from the right side menu then click “Enter Livestream” at the designated time. A countdown clock will appear to let you know when it will start.
Can I watch a Filmmaker Q&A livestream after it is over?
Yes, livestreams are recorded and made available to ticket holders for the duration of the program availability window. We will also share recordings on Reeling’s Vimeo and Facebook page to watch at any time after.
How long do I have to watch a film once I hit play?
You will have 48 hours to finish watching the film once you hit play.
Can I stop and start while watching?
Yes, you can stop and start a screening, as long as you are within the timeframe it is available for viewing.
Why is a film no longer available?
Films are only available for a limited time and can only be viewed within the 4-day viewing window. Each film page includes a real-time countdown (example below) for availability.
“After this content becomes available September 24th at 12:00 am CDT, you’ll have 3 days 23 hours to start watching. Once you begin, you’ll have 48 hours to finish watching.”
How do I redeem my discount code?
On the checkout page, it will say “Have a Discount Code?” Click that and enter your discount code.
Do the films have closed captioning?
Films with closed captioning will be indicated by “Closed captioning available” in the right sidebar of screening pages. To make captions visible, hover your cursor over the video player then click on the CC (closed caption) button.
How do I adjust the volume on the video player?
To make volume controls visible, hover your cursor over the video player. Click on the sound icon and slide the volume bar to adjust the volume.
How do I view films in full screen?
Hover your cursor over the video player, then click on the full-screen icon (looks like a square) to make it full screen.
Can I watch content on my iPhone/iPad?
Yes, you can watch content using Safari on iOS 11.2 or later.
Important note: Due to content protection restrictions, the Screen Mirroring feature cannot be used. Additionally, HDMI or other video dongles cannot be connected to your device. Instead, use AirPlay or our dedicated TV app to watch on your TV.
My movie won’t play! (General troubleshooting steps)
Please confirm that you are not on a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Eventive’s content protection protocol does not allow VPN access.
Are you logged in with the correct account? Please check your login status at the upper right hand corner of the Eventive window. If you are logged in, you will see a circle with the initials of the account holder. To switch accounts, click on the circle and select “sign out”, then log in (using email address or Facebook login) to the preferred account.
If you are not logged in, you’ll see the word “log in” at the upper right hand side of the window. Click “log in” and enter the desired account credentials.
You may also log in directly from the order pop-up if you click “unlock movie” while logged out.
If all you see in the player window is a black screen, please click or tap on the window to activate the player controls.
